- Check what your lease says about who owns and repairs the shopfront glass.
- Big panes need lifting equipment and may need an out-of-hours slot.
- Ask your insurer whether they name a glass rating before you order.
- Keep a note of pane sizes so a broken pane can be ordered quickly.
Questions from retail shops
What rating of glass does a typical shop need?
Most high-street shops are well served by P4A to P6B laminated glass under BS EN 356. Higher-value stock or an insurer's requirement can push that to P8B.
Can the glass be changed without closing the shop?
Usually. Early-morning or after-closing slots can often be arranged, subject to the installer's schedule and the size of the panes.
Will laminated glass change how my shopfront looks?
No. Clear laminated glass looks the same as ordinary glass from the street, so displays and signage are unaffected.
Can I upgrade one pane at a time?
Yes. Many shops start with the panes nearest the door or the most valuable display and replace the rest as budget allows or when panes are damaged.
