Laminated security glass in Ormskirk

How much should I budget for laminated security glass in Ormskirk?

Guide prices for laminated security glass in Ormskirk are £174 to £594 including VAT (£145 to £495 plus VAT) per pane for supply and fitting. We confirm a fixed price in writing after a free survey, before any glass is ordered.

Laminated security glass is made by bonding two or more sheets of glass to a plastic interlayer, usually PVB, under heat and pressure. When it is struck the glass cracks but the fragments stay stuck to the interlayer, so the pane keeps filling the opening and has to be attacked again and again before anyone can get through.

Rooflights and overhead glazing

What to think about first

Clear or special glass

Low-iron glass removes the green tint on thick panes, acoustic interlayers cut road noise, and obscure versions give privacy for bathrooms and side panels.

Frame and rebate depth

Thicker laminates need a deeper glazing rebate and stronger beads. We check what your frames will take before anything is ordered.

Insurer requirements

Insurers set their own conditions for shops, offices, stock and cash, and some name a glazing class such as BS EN 356 P6B in the policy wording. Ask for that wording in writing before you order. The insurer decides whether the glass meets their policy; we provide the glass manufacturer's test evidence with the quote.

Safety glass in critical locations

In England, section 5 of Approved Document K treats glazing in doors and in side panels within 300 mm of a door edge, from floor level up to 1,500 mm, and any other glazing below 800 mm, as a critical location. Glass there should break safely, be robust, or be guarded. Laminated or toughened glass meeting BS EN 12600 class 3 is the usual answer, rising to class 2 for door and side-panel panes wider than 900 mm.

Laminated security glass in Ormskirk: questions

Do you cover Maghull as well as Ormskirk?

Yes. As well as Ormskirk, we can arrange surveys in nearby Maghull, Skelmersdale and Kirkby. Dates depend on installer availability.

Does laminated glass stop burglars completely?

No glass makes a building impossible to enter. Laminated glass makes breaking in slow, noisy and hard work, which makes the building a much poorer target for an opportunist. Higher classes and stronger frames add more delay.

Will laminated glass fit my existing windows?

Usually. A laminated pane or a sealed unit with a laminated inner pane is made to the same overall thickness as your current glass where the frame allows. We check rebate depth, beads and hinges first.

Can laminated glass be cut to size?

Yes. Unlike toughened glass, laminated glass can be cut after it is made, which helps with odd shapes and quick replacements. The edges are finished and kept dry in the frame to protect the interlayer.
