How much does laminated glass retrofit cost in Rhondda?
As a guide, allow £174 to £534 including VAT (£145 to £445 plus VAT) per pane for laminated glass retrofit in Rhondda, supplied and fitted. Size, glass makeup, access and frame condition move the price, which is confirmed in writing after the free survey.
A laminated glass retrofit replaces the glass in frames you already have with laminated glass or laminated sealed units, so an existing building gets much more resistance to break-in without the cost and disruption of new windows. It suits homes, offices and shops where the frames are still sound.

Things to decide before you order
Which elevations first
Ground-floor, rear and hidden glass carries most of the risk, so it usually comes first.
Frame condition
If a frame is too shallow, damaged or weak, we will say so rather than fit heavier glass into it.
Rules that apply in Wales
Replacing glass in an existing frame
Welsh Government guidance says building regulations have applied to replacement glazing since 1 April 2002, which covers replacing windows and doors. Swapping only the glass or a sealed unit in an existing frame is generally treated as a repair. New glass in a critical location should still be safety glass, and the council's building control team can confirm anything unclear.
Safety glass in critical locations
In Wales, safety glazing is covered by Approved Document N (glazing) under the Welsh Building Regulations rather than Approved Document K. Glass in doors up to 1,500 mm above the floor, in panes within 300 mm of a door up to 1,500 mm, and in other glazing below 800 mm should be safety glass or protected. Laminated and toughened glass are the usual choices.

Laminated glass retrofit in Rhondda: questions
Do you cover Tonypandy as well as Rhondda?
Yes. As well as Rhondda, we can arrange surveys in nearby Tonypandy, Aberdare and Pontypridd. Dates depend on installer availability.
Is retrofitting cheaper than new windows?
Usually, yes, because frames, plastering and making good are not involved. It only makes sense where the frames are sound.
Can you do the work in phases?
Yes. Many customers start with the most exposed windows and do the rest later.
Will laminated glass fit my frames?
Most modern frames can take a laminated unit of the same overall thickness. We check the rebate depth and beads at the survey.
