What should laminated glass retrofit cost in Holyhead?
Budget £174 to £534 including VAT (£145 to £445 plus VAT) per pane for laminated glass retrofit in Holyhead, supplied and fitted. Larger panes, thicker makeups and difficult access cost more; the price is fixed in writing after the survey.
A laminated glass retrofit replaces the glass in frames you already have with laminated glass or laminated sealed units, so an existing building gets much more resistance to break-in without the cost and disruption of new windows. It suits homes, offices and shops where the frames are still sound.
What you can specify
- Pane-by-pane record of glass fitted
- Laminated single panes or laminated sealed units
- Phased work by elevation or floor
- Matched to existing rebate depth and beads
- Survey of every frame before ordering
- Hinge, stay and roller adjustment after fitting

Frame condition
If a frame is too shallow, damaged or weak, we will say so rather than fit heavier glass into it.

P2A suits most homes and offices. Shops and cash areas may need P4A or anti-bandit classes.
Glazing rules in Wales
Security rules for new homes
Wales introduced its own Approved Document Q for new homes, in force from 1 November 2018, and it applies to newly erected dwellings only. It follows a similar approach to England's, with PAS 24 referenced for easily accessible doors and windows and laminated glass to BS EN 356 P1A in doors and nearby windows. It does not apply to changing the glass in an existing home.
Listed buildings and conservation areas
Listed buildings in Wales need listed building consent from the local planning authority for works that affect their character, which can include replacing historic glass, glazing bars or sashes. Cadw advises on the historic environment in Wales. Reversible options such as secondary glazing are often easier to agree, but the council decides.

Laminated glass retrofit in Holyhead: questions
Do you cover Caernarfon as well as Holyhead?
Yes. As well as Holyhead, we can arrange work in nearby Caernarfon. Dates depend on installer availability.
Is retrofitting cheaper than new windows?
Usually, yes, because frames, plastering and making good are not involved. It only makes sense where the frames are sound.
Can you do the work in phases?
Yes. Many customers start with the most exposed windows and do the rest later.
Will the windows look different?
No. The frames stay and the new glass is clear, unless you choose an obscure or tinted finish.
