How much does laminated glass retrofit cost in Central London?
Typical prices for laminated glass retrofit in Central London are £174 to £534 including VAT (£145 to £445 plus VAT) per pane, supplied and fitted. Use the quote tool for a guide figure, then we survey and confirm a fixed price.
A laminated glass retrofit replaces the glass in frames you already have with laminated glass or laminated sealed units, so an existing building gets much more resistance to break-in without the cost and disruption of new windows. It suits homes, offices and shops where the frames are still sound.
Choices you can make
- Hinge, stay and roller adjustment after fitting
- Survey of every frame before ordering
- Matched to existing rebate depth and beads
- Phased work by elevation or floor
- Security tape and bead clips where needed
- Pane-by-pane record of glass fitted
Fitting in Central London and nearby
We can arrange laminated glass retrofit across Central London, the main centre for Greater London, and in nearby towns including Pimlico, Islington and Camden Town.
Greater London has every kind of glazing, from Georgian sashes and Victorian bays in conservation areas to high-street shopfronts, office curtain walling and new-build flats.
Typical places for laminated glass retrofit:
- Homes with sound uPVC or aluminium windows
- Buildings where frames are too new to replace
- Offices with older glazing
- Shops wanting more security without a new frontage
Things to decide before you order
Frame condition
If a frame is too shallow, damaged or weak, we will say so rather than fit heavier glass into it.
Class of glass
P2A suits most homes and offices. Shops and cash areas may need P4A or anti-bandit classes.
Rules that apply in England
Safety glass in critical locations
In England, section 5 of Approved Document K treats glazing in doors and in side panels within 300 mm of a door edge, from floor level up to 1,500 mm, and any other glazing below 800 mm, as a critical location. Glass there should break safely, be robust, or be guarded. Laminated or toughened glass meeting BS EN 12600 class 3 is the usual answer, rising to class 2 for door and side-panel panes wider than 900 mm.
Security rules for new homes
Approved Document Q has applied to new homes in England since 1 October 2015. Easily accessible doors and windows, meaning any part within 2 m vertically of the ground or another accessible surface, should meet PAS 24 or an equivalent, and glazing in doors and in windows within 400 mm of a door should be laminated to at least BS EN 356 P1A. It does not apply when you change the glass in an existing home, although it is a sensible benchmark.

Laminated glass retrofit in Central London: questions
Which areas near Central London do you cover?
We can arrange work in Central London and in nearby Pimlico (1 mile), Islington (2 miles) and Camden Town (2 miles). Dates depend on installer availability.
Is retrofitting cheaper than new windows?
Usually, yes, because frames, plastering and making good are not involved. It only makes sense where the frames are sound.
Will the windows look different?
No. The frames stay and the new glass is clear, unless you choose an obscure or tinted finish.
Will laminated glass fit my frames?
Most modern frames can take a laminated unit of the same overall thickness. We check the rebate depth and beads at the survey.
