Tested doorset or upgrade
Where an insurer, landlord or specifier names a standard, a doorset tested to it by its maker is the route. Otherwise a strong commercial doorset with laminated glass is often enough.
Exit and fire safety
Locking must let people out easily while the building is occupied. We work with your fire risk assessment, and fire doors need fire-rated products.
Glazing rules in England
Security rules for new homes
Approved Document Q has applied to new homes in England since 1 October 2015. Easily accessible doors and windows, meaning any part within 2 m vertically of the ground or another accessible surface, should meet PAS 24 or an equivalent, and glazing in doors and in windows within 400 mm of a door should be laminated to at least BS EN 356 P1A. It does not apply when you change the glass in an existing home, although it is a sensible benchmark.
Insurer requirements
Insurers set their own conditions for shops, offices, stock and cash, and some name a glazing class such as BS EN 356 P6B in the policy wording. Ask for that wording in writing before you order. The insurer decides whether the glass meets their policy; we provide the glass manufacturer's test evidence with the quote.

Security glazed doors and screens in Shepherds Bush: questions
Which areas near Shepherds Bush do you cover?
We can arrange work in Shepherds Bush and in nearby Notting Hill (1 mile), Chiswick (2 miles) and Fulham (2 miles). Dates depend on installer availability.
Can a security door also be a fire exit?
Yes, with the right hardware. Exit doors must open easily from inside while people are present, so we choose locking and panic hardware to suit your fire arrangements.
Do new entrance doors need building regulations approval?
Replacing whole doors is often controlled building work (notifiable in England and Wales; in Scotland and Northern Ireland check with the council's building control), and new entrances may need planning permission. We tell you what applies before ordering.
Can you just change the glass in my existing door?
Often, if the frame is sound. Laminated glass and internal beads are a good upgrade. If the frame is light or worn, a new doorset is better value.
