Questions we will ask at the survey
Integral blinds
Units with blinds inside the glass can be made with a laminated pane, but lead times are longer.
Solar control
South-facing doors can overheat. Adding solar control glass at the same time keeps rooms cooler.
Building regulations and safety in Scotland
Safety glass in critical locations
In Scotland, standard 4.8 of the Building Standards technical handbooks covers glazing at risk of human impact. Panes within 800 mm of floor level, in a door leaf, or within 300 mm of a door leaf and up to 1.5 m above the floor should resist impact in line with BS 6262-4, or be guarded. Laminated and toughened glass are the usual ways to meet it.
Planning permission
Under the Scottish planning system the council decides whether a new or altered shopfront needs planning permission; changing the glass in an existing frame usually does not. Bollards or barriers in a road or footway need consent from the roads authority, which is normally the council.

Patio and bifold door security glass in Dundee and Angus: questions
Which towns in Dundee and Angus do you cover?
We can arrange work anywhere in Dundee and Angus, including Dundee, Arbroath, Forfar and Montrose.
Can you replace just one pane of a bifold?
Yes. Each leaf takes its own unit, so we can upgrade one leaf or all of them.
Do you work on aluminium bifolds?
Yes, on aluminium, uPVC and timber doors, provided the frame can take the new unit thickness.
Is patio door glass already safety glass?
It should be, because doors are critical locations. Most is toughened, which is safe but not secure. Adding a laminated pane makes it both.
