Patio and bifold door security glass means fitting large sealed units with a laminated pane into sliding, French or bifolding doors. These doors are usually the biggest glass at the back of the house and out of view, so making the glass hold when it is struck closes one of the easiest routes in.
Choices you can make
- Anti-lift and lock checks on sliding doors
- Glass lifters and enough installers for heavy panes
- Low-E, argon and solar control glass options
- Roller, carriage and hinge adjustment after fitting
- Units sized for sliding, French and bifold doors
- Integral blind units replaced like for like where possible
Fitting in Kilmarnock and nearby
We can arrange patio and bifold door security glass across Kilmarnock, the main centre for Ayrshire, and in nearby towns including Irvine, Troon and Saltcoats.
Ayrshire mixes the shopping streets of Ayr and Kilmarnock with coastal towns such as Largs, Troon and Irvine that take Firth of Clyde weather, and rural villages inland.
Typical places for patio and bifold door security glass:
- Doors hidden from the street by fences or hedges
- French doors onto gardens
- Ground-floor flats with doors onto terraces
- Sliding patio doors at the back of a house
Things to decide before you order
Solar control
South-facing doors can overheat. Adding solar control glass at the same time keeps rooms cooler.
Integral blinds
Units with blinds inside the glass can be made with a laminated pane, but lead times are longer.
Rules that apply in Scotland
Security rules for new homes
Standard 4.13 asks for doors and windows in new homes that are vulnerable to unlawful entry to be secure. Glazing that would let someone reach a lock from outside should be laminated or similarly robust, and easily accessible openable windows need a keyed lock or a keyless lock with laminated glass. It applies through the building warrant for new homes and conversions.
Replacing glass in an existing frame
In Scotland, replacing glass in an existing frame is normally treated as a repair rather than work needing a building warrant. Whether replacing whole windows or doors needs a warrant depends on the building, and the work should still meet the building standards. The council's building standards service can confirm what applies.

Do you work on aluminium bifolds?
Yes, on aluminium, uPVC and timber doors, provided the frame can take the new unit thickness.
Can you replace just one pane of a bifold?
