Misted unit replacement with laminated glass in Ross-on-Wye: what will it cost?

Expect £150 to £474 including VAT (£125 to £395 plus VAT) per unit for misted unit replacement with laminated glass in Ross-on-Wye. The written quote names the glass makeup, the price and the lead time before you commit.

Misted unit replacement means swapping a double-glazed unit whose seal has failed, so moisture has got between the panes, for a new sealed unit. Doing it with a laminated pane turns a routine repair into a security upgrade for little extra cost.

Glass and fitting options

  • Obscure and decorative glass matched where possible
  • Existing frames, handles and locks kept
  • Laminated inner pane for security
  • New sealed units made to measure
  • Low-E glass, argon fill and warm-edge spacers
  • Security tape on externally beaded frames

Fitting in Ross-on-Wye and nearby

From the HR9 district we also cover Hereford (11 miles) and Gloucester (15 miles). Survey dates depend on installer availability.

Herefordshire is largely rural, with Hereford's cathedral-city centre, black-and-white timber-framed villages, and market towns such as Leominster and Ledbury with historic centres.

Typical settings for misted unit replacement with laminated glass:

  • Homes where frames are sound but glass is tired
  • Units with blown seals in sunny elevations
  • Door glass that has gone cloudy
  • Windows with condensation between the panes

Unit thickness

We match the overall thickness to your frame so the beads fit properly.

Replace the frame instead

If frames are rotten, warped or very old, new windows may be better value. We will tell you honestly.

What the rules say in England

England

Safety glass in critical locations

In England, section 5 of Approved Document K treats glazing in doors and in side panels within 300 mm of a door edge, from floor level up to 1,500 mm, and any other glazing below 800 mm, as a critical location. Glass there should break safely, be robust, or be guarded. Laminated or toughened glass meeting BS EN 12600 class 3 is the usual answer, rising to class 2 for door and side-panel panes wider than 900 mm.

Security rules for new homes

Approved Document Q has applied to new homes in England since 1 October 2015. Easily accessible doors and windows, meaning any part within 2 m vertically of the ground or another accessible surface, should meet PAS 24 or an equivalent, and glazing in doors and in windows within 400 mm of a door should be laminated to at least BS EN 356 P1A. It does not apply when you change the glass in an existing home, although it is a sensible benchmark.

Misted unit replacement with laminated glass in Ross-on-Wye: questions

Can you survey in Ross-on-Wye and nearby towns?

Yes. Surveys in Ross-on-Wye, Hereford and Gloucester are booked around installer availability.

Do I need a new window frame?

No, if the frame is sound. We replace only the sealed unit.

Why is there condensation between my window panes?

The seal around the unit has failed, letting damp air into the gap. The only lasting fix is a new unit.

Will the new unit match the others?

We match the size, spacer colour and glass as closely as we can, including common obscure patterns.
