Misted unit replacement with laminated glass in Denton: what will it cost?

Typical prices for misted unit replacement with laminated glass in Denton are £150 to £474 including VAT (£125 to £395 plus VAT) per unit, supplied and fitted. Use the quote tool for a guide figure, then we survey and confirm a fixed price.

Misted unit replacement means swapping a double-glazed unit whose seal has failed, so moisture has got between the panes, for a new sealed unit. Doing it with a laminated pane turns a routine repair into a security upgrade for little extra cost.

Choices you can make

  • Low-E glass, argon fill and warm-edge spacers
  • Old units removed and disposed of
  • Existing frames, handles and locks kept
  • New sealed units made to measure
  • Obscure and decorative glass matched where possible
  • Laminated inner pane for security

What the rules say in England

England

Safety glass in critical locations

In England, section 5 of Approved Document K treats glazing in doors and in side panels within 300 mm of a door edge, from floor level up to 1,500 mm, and any other glazing below 800 mm, as a critical location. Glass there should break safely, be robust, or be guarded. Laminated or toughened glass meeting BS EN 12600 class 3 is the usual answer, rising to class 2 for door and side-panel panes wider than 900 mm.

Security rules for new homes

Approved Document Q has applied to new homes in England since 1 October 2015. Easily accessible doors and windows, meaning any part within 2 m vertically of the ground or another accessible surface, should meet PAS 24 or an equivalent, and glazing in doors and in windows within 400 mm of a door should be laminated to at least BS EN 356 P1A. It does not apply when you change the glass in an existing home, although it is a sensible benchmark.

Misted unit replacement with laminated glass in Denton: questions

Which areas near Denton do you cover?

We can arrange work in Denton and in nearby Hyde (2 miles), Dukinfield (2 miles) and Droylsden (2 miles). Dates depend on installer availability.

Does replacing a unit need building regulations approval?

Replacing glass or a sealed unit in an existing frame is generally treated as a repair rather than new building work, across the UK. Replacing the whole window is different and is controlled.

Why is there condensation between my window panes?

The seal around the unit has failed, letting damp air into the gap. The only lasting fix is a new unit.

Can misted glass be repaired instead of replaced?

Some services drill and dry units, but the seal stays broken and insulation is not restored. A new unit is the reliable fix.
