Misted unit replacement with laminated glass in Bow: what will it cost?
Our guide range for misted unit replacement with laminated glass in Bow is £150 to £474 including VAT (£125 to £395 plus VAT) per unit, including fitting. The survey is free for new installations and your fixed price follows in writing.
Misted unit replacement means swapping a double-glazed unit whose seal has failed, so moisture has got between the panes, for a new sealed unit. Doing it with a laminated pane turns a routine repair into a security upgrade for little extra cost.

- Existing frames, handles and locks kept
- Obscure and decorative glass matched where possible
- Old units removed and disposed of

Replace the frame instead
If frames are rotten, warped or very old, new windows may be better value. We will tell you honestly.
Unit thickness
We match the overall thickness to your frame so the beads fit properly.
What the rules say in England
Safety glass in critical locations
In England, section 5 of Approved Document K treats glazing in doors and in side panels within 300 mm of a door edge, from floor level up to 1,500 mm, and any other glazing below 800 mm, as a critical location. Glass there should break safely, be robust, or be guarded. Laminated or toughened glass meeting BS EN 12600 class 3 is the usual answer, rising to class 2 for door and side-panel panes wider than 900 mm.
Security rules for new homes
Approved Document Q has applied to new homes in England since 1 October 2015. Easily accessible doors and windows, meaning any part within 2 m vertically of the ground or another accessible surface, should meet PAS 24 or an equivalent, and glazing in doors and in windows within 400 mm of a door should be laminated to at least BS EN 356 P1A. It does not apply when you change the glass in an existing home, although it is a sensible benchmark.

Misted unit replacement with laminated glass in Bow: questions
Do you cover Stratford as well as Bow?
Yes. As well as Bow, we can arrange surveys in nearby Stratford, Canary Wharf and Canning Town. Dates depend on installer availability.
Do I need a new window frame?
No, if the frame is sound. We replace only the sealed unit.
Can misted glass be repaired instead of replaced?
Some services drill and dry units, but the seal stays broken and insulation is not restored. A new unit is the reliable fix.
Does replacing a unit need building regulations approval?
Replacing glass or a sealed unit in an existing frame is generally treated as a repair rather than new building work, across the UK. Replacing the whole window is different and is controlled.
