How much does misted unit replacement with laminated glass cost in Harwich?
Our guide range for misted unit replacement with laminated glass in Harwich is £150 to £474 including VAT (£125 to £395 plus VAT) per unit, including fitting. The survey is free for new installations and your fixed price follows in writing.
Misted unit replacement means swapping a double-glazed unit whose seal has failed, so moisture has got between the panes, for a new sealed unit. Doing it with a laminated pane turns a routine repair into a security upgrade for little extra cost.
Specification at a glance
- New sealed units made to measure
- Old units removed and disposed of
- Low-E glass, argon fill and warm-edge spacers
- Laminated inner pane for security
- Toughened panes where safety glass is required
- Existing frames, handles and locks kept
Fitting in Harwich and nearby
Whether you are in central Harwich or at the edge of the CO12 district, we can arrange a survey. Nearby Felixstowe and Ipswich are covered too.
Essex runs from Chelmsford and Colchester's town-centre retail and Georgian streets to Southend's seafront and large post-war and new-build estates in Basildon and Harlow.
Typical places for misted unit replacement with laminated glass:

Things to decide before you order
Energy specification
New low-E and argon units are usually warmer than the ones they replace.
Unit thickness
We match the overall thickness to your frame so the beads fit properly.
Rules that apply in England
Safety glass in critical locations
In England, section 5 of Approved Document K treats glazing in doors and in side panels within 300 mm of a door edge, from floor level up to 1,500 mm, and any other glazing below 800 mm, as a critical location. Glass there should break safely, be robust, or be guarded. Laminated or toughened glass meeting BS EN 12600 class 3 is the usual answer, rising to class 2 for door and side-panel panes wider than 900 mm.
Security rules for new homes
Approved Document Q has applied to new homes in England since 1 October 2015. Easily accessible doors and windows, meaning any part within 2 m vertically of the ground or another accessible surface, should meet PAS 24 or an equivalent, and glazing in doors and in windows within 400 mm of a door should be laminated to at least BS EN 356 P1A. It does not apply when you change the glass in an existing home, although it is a sensible benchmark.

Misted unit replacement with laminated glass in Harwich: questions
Do you cover Felixstowe as well as Harwich?
Yes. As well as Harwich, we can arrange surveys in nearby Felixstowe, Ipswich and Clacton-on-Sea. Dates depend on installer availability.
Do I need a new window frame?
No, if the frame is sound. We replace only the sealed unit.
Why is there condensation between my window panes?
The seal around the unit has failed, letting damp air into the gap. The only lasting fix is a new unit.
Does replacing a unit need building regulations approval?
Replacing glass or a sealed unit in an existing frame is generally treated as a repair rather than new building work, across the UK. Replacing the whole window is different and is controlled.
