How much should I budget for misted unit replacement with laminated glass in Limavady?
Expect £150 to £474 including VAT (£125 to £395 plus VAT) per unit for misted unit replacement with laminated glass in Limavady. The written quote names the glass makeup, the price and the lead time before you commit.
Misted unit replacement means swapping a double-glazed unit whose seal has failed, so moisture has got between the panes, for a new sealed unit. Doing it with a laminated pane turns a routine repair into a security upgrade for little extra cost.
What you can specify
- Toughened panes where safety glass is required
- Security tape on externally beaded frames
- Existing frames, handles and locks kept
- Low-E glass, argon fill and warm-edge spacers
- Laminated inner pane for security
- Old units removed and disposed of

What to think about first
Laminated or standard
A laminated inner pane adds security for a small extra cost while the unit is being made.
Replace the frame instead
If frames are rotten, warped or very old, new windows may be better value. We will tell you honestly.
Consents and safety: Northern Ireland
Security rules for new homes
If you are building a new home in Northern Ireland, ask the council's building control service which security requirements apply. In existing homes nothing obliges you to upgrade glass, but laminated glass to BS EN 356 P1A in doors and in windows beside them is a common benchmark taken from guidance in Great Britain.
Replacing glass in an existing frame
Building regulations in Northern Ireland are administered by the eleven councils' building control services. Replacing only the glass in an existing frame is generally treated as a repair, while replacing whole windows or doors can be controlled work, so check with building control first. New glass in a critical location should be safety glass under Part V.

Misted unit replacement with laminated glass in Limavady: questions
Do you cover Coleraine as well as Limavady?
Yes. As well as Limavady, we can arrange surveys in nearby Coleraine, Derry and Ballymoney. Dates depend on installer availability.
Does replacing a unit need building regulations approval?
Replacing glass or a sealed unit in an existing frame is generally treated as a repair rather than new building work, across the UK. Replacing the whole window is different and is controlled.
Do I need a new window frame?
No, if the frame is sound. We replace only the sealed unit.
Will the new unit match the others?
We match the size, spacer colour and glass as closely as we can, including common obscure patterns.
