What should misted unit replacement with laminated glass cost in Huntingdon?
Budget £150 to £474 including VAT (£125 to £395 plus VAT) per unit for misted unit replacement with laminated glass in Huntingdon, supplied and fitted. Larger panes, thicker makeups and difficult access cost more; the price is fixed in writing after the survey.
Misted unit replacement means swapping a double-glazed unit whose seal has failed, so moisture has got between the panes, for a new sealed unit. Doing it with a laminated pane turns a routine repair into a security upgrade for little extra cost.
Choices you can make
- Low-E glass, argon fill and warm-edge spacers
- Old units removed and disposed of
- Existing frames, handles and locks kept
- Security tape on externally beaded frames
- Laminated inner pane for security

Laminated or standard
A laminated inner pane adds security for a small extra cost while the unit is being made.
Energy specification
New low-E and argon units are usually warmer than the ones they replace.
Glazing rules in England
Safety glass in critical locations
In England, section 5 of Approved Document K treats glazing in doors and in side panels within 300 mm of a door edge, from floor level up to 1,500 mm, and any other glazing below 800 mm, as a critical location. Glass there should break safely, be robust, or be guarded. Laminated or toughened glass meeting BS EN 12600 class 3 is the usual answer, rising to class 2 for door and side-panel panes wider than 900 mm.
Replacing glass in an existing frame
Replacing only the glass or sealed unit in an existing frame is generally treated as a repair in England rather than notifiable building work. Replacing a whole window or door is notifiable and is normally certified through a competent person scheme or approved by building control. Either way, new glass in a critical location should still be safety glass.

Misted unit replacement with laminated glass in Huntingdon: questions
Which areas near Huntingdon do you cover?
We can arrange work in Huntingdon and in nearby St Neots (9 miles), Cambridge (16 miles) and Peterborough (17 miles). Dates depend on installer availability.
Do I need a new window frame?
No, if the frame is sound. We replace only the sealed unit.
Can misted glass be repaired instead of replaced?
Some services drill and dry units, but the seal stays broken and insulation is not restored. A new unit is the reliable fix.
Will the new unit match the others?
We match the size, spacer colour and glass as closely as we can, including common obscure patterns.
