Laminated security glass in Chorley

What is the price of laminated security glass in Chorley?

Our guide range for laminated security glass in Chorley is £174 to £594 including VAT (£145 to £495 plus VAT) per pane, including fitting. The survey is free for new installations and your fixed price follows in writing.

Laminated security glass is made by bonding two or more sheets of glass to a plastic interlayer, usually PVB, under heat and pressure. When it is struck the glass cracks but the fragments stay stuck to the interlayer, so the pane keeps filling the opening and has to be attacked again and again before anyone can get through.

Questions we will ask at the survey

Which security class

P2A suits most homes and many offices. Higher-risk shops, stockrooms and cash areas usually move up to P4A, or to the anti-bandit P6B to P8B classes.

Single pane or sealed unit

In double glazing the laminated sheet is normally the inner pane, with a toughened outer pane where safety glass is needed. Single-glazed frames take a laminated pane on its own.

Insurer requirements

Insurers set their own conditions for shops, offices, stock and cash, and some name a glazing class such as BS EN 356 P6B in the policy wording. Ask for that wording in writing before you order. The insurer decides whether the glass meets their policy; we provide the glass manufacturer's test evidence with the quote.

Replacing glass in an existing frame

Replacing only the glass or sealed unit in an existing frame is generally treated as a repair in England rather than notifiable building work. Replacing a whole window or door is notifiable and is normally certified through a competent person scheme or approved by building control. Either way, new glass in a critical location should still be safety glass.

Laminated security glass in Chorley: questions

Which areas near Chorley do you cover?

We can arrange work in Chorley and in nearby Leyland (4 miles), Darwen (7 miles) and Wigan (7 miles). Dates depend on installer availability.

What does P2A mean on laminated glass?

P2A is a class under BS EN 356. A sample has to stop a 4.11 kg steel ball dropped three times from 3 metres without the ball passing through. It is a sensible minimum for windows and doors that can be reached from the ground.

Will laminated glass fit my existing windows?

Usually. A laminated pane or a sealed unit with a laminated inner pane is made to the same overall thickness as your current glass where the frame allows. We check rebate depth, beads and hinges first.

Can laminated glass be cut to size?

Yes. Unlike toughened glass, laminated glass can be cut after it is made, which helps with odd shapes and quick replacements. The edges are finished and kept dry in the frame to protect the interlayer.
