How much should I budget for laminated security glass in Willesden?

Our guide range for laminated security glass in Willesden is £174 to £594 including VAT (£145 to £495 plus VAT) per pane, including fitting. The survey is free for new installations and your fixed price follows in writing.

Laminated security glass is made by bonding two or more sheets of glass to a plastic interlayer, usually PVB, under heat and pressure. When it is struck the glass cracks but the fragments stay stuck to the interlayer, so the pane keeps filling the opening and has to be attacked again and again before anyone can get through.

Choices you can make

  • Blocks most UV light, which slows fading of furniture and stock
  • Clear, low-iron, tinted, obscure and acoustic versions
  • Single panes or the inner or outer pane of a sealed unit
  • Breaks safely, meeting impact classes used for critical locations
  • PVB interlayers from 0.38 mm to 1.52 mm, or stiffer ionoplast interlayers
  • Cut to size on site or in the factory, unlike toughened glass

Fitting in Willesden and nearby

We can arrange laminated security glass anywhere in Willesden, and in nearby Cricklewood, Notting Hill and Shepherds Bush. Tell us your postcode and we will offer dates.

Greater London has every kind of glazing, from Georgian sashes and Victorian bays in conservation areas to high-street shopfronts, office curtain walling and new-build flats.

Common uses:

  • Shop windows and glazed shop doors
  • Ground-floor windows that face a garden or alley
  • Low-level glass in homes, schools and offices
  • Glazed doors where a thumb-turn lock sits behind the glass

What to think about first

Single pane or sealed unit

In double glazing the laminated sheet is normally the inner pane, with a toughened outer pane where safety glass is needed. Single-glazed frames take a laminated pane on its own.

Frame and rebate depth

Thicker laminates need a deeper glazing rebate and stronger beads. We check what your frames will take before anything is ordered.

Consents and safety: England

England

Security rules for new homes

Approved Document Q has applied to new homes in England since 1 October 2015. Easily accessible doors and windows, meaning any part within 2 m vertically of the ground or another accessible surface, should meet PAS 24 or an equivalent, and glazing in doors and in windows within 400 mm of a door should be laminated to at least BS EN 356 P1A. It does not apply when you change the glass in an existing home, although it is a sensible benchmark.

Safety glass in critical locations

In England, section 5 of Approved Document K treats glazing in doors and in side panels within 300 mm of a door edge, from floor level up to 1,500 mm, and any other glazing below 800 mm, as a critical location. Glass there should break safely, be robust, or be guarded. Laminated or toughened glass meeting BS EN 12600 class 3 is the usual answer, rising to class 2 for door and side-panel panes wider than 900 mm.

Laminated security glass in Willesden: questions

Which areas near Willesden do you cover?

We can arrange work in Willesden and in nearby Cricklewood (2 miles), Notting Hill (2 miles) and Shepherds Bush (2 miles). Dates depend on installer availability.

Can laminated glass be cut to size?

Yes. Unlike toughened glass, laminated glass can be cut after it is made, which helps with odd shapes and quick replacements. The edges are finished and kept dry in the frame to protect the interlayer.

Does laminated glass stop burglars completely?

No glass makes a building impossible to enter. Laminated glass makes breaking in slow, noisy and hard work, which makes the building a much poorer target for an opportunist. Higher classes and stronger frames add more delay.

What does P2A mean on laminated glass?

P2A is a class under BS EN 356. A sample has to stop a 4.11 kg steel ball dropped three times from 3 metres without the ball passing through. It is a sensible minimum for windows and doors that can be reached from the ground.
