What is the price of security glass for home windows in Chelsea?

Our guide range for security glass for home windows in Chelsea is £162 to £474 including VAT (£135 to £395 plus VAT) per window, including fitting. The survey is free for new installations and your fixed price follows in writing.

Security glass for home windows means replacing the glass in your existing frames with laminated glass or sealed units that have a laminated pane. The windows look and open exactly as before, but breaking the glass becomes a slow, noisy job rather than a quick way into the house.

Options for security glass for home windows in Chelsea

  • Toughened outer pane where safety glass is required
  • Obscure glass for bathrooms and landings
  • Works with uPVC, aluminium and timber frames
  • Security tape or clips on externally beaded windows
  • Frames, handles and locks left in place
  • Low-E glass and argon to keep rooms warm

Fitting in Chelsea and nearby

Chelsea is about 2 miles from Central London, the main centre for Greater London. We can survey and fit across the SW3 district and in nearby places such as Battersea and Fulham.

Greater London has every kind of glazing, from Georgian sashes and Victorian bays in conservation areas to high-street shopfronts, office curtain walling and new-build flats.

This glazing suits:

  • Basement and lower-ground windows
  • Ground-floor windows at the back of the house
  • Bungalows, where every window is at ground level
  • Windows beside flat roofs, porches and extensions

Questions we will ask at the survey

Laminated inner or both panes

A laminated inner pane suits most homes. Laminating both panes adds protection on hidden elevations.

Keep or replace frames

If the frames are sound, new glass is the cheaper upgrade. If they are failing, we will tell you so you can compare with new windows.

Building regulations and safety in England

England

Safety glass in critical locations

In England, section 5 of Approved Document K treats glazing in doors and in side panels within 300 mm of a door edge, from floor level up to 1,500 mm, and any other glazing below 800 mm, as a critical location. Glass there should break safely, be robust, or be guarded. Laminated or toughened glass meeting BS EN 12600 class 3 is the usual answer, rising to class 2 for door and side-panel panes wider than 900 mm.

Security rules for new homes

Approved Document Q has applied to new homes in England since 1 October 2015. Easily accessible doors and windows, meaning any part within 2 m vertically of the ground or another accessible surface, should meet PAS 24 or an equivalent, and glazing in doors and in windows within 400 mm of a door should be laminated to at least BS EN 356 P1A. It does not apply when you change the glass in an existing home, although it is a sensible benchmark.

Security glass for home windows in Chelsea: questions

Which areas near Chelsea do you cover?

We can arrange work in Chelsea and in nearby Battersea (1 mile), Fulham (1 mile) and Pimlico (1 mile). Dates depend on installer availability.

Which windows do burglars target?

Mostly ground-floor windows at the back and side, and windows that can be reached from flat roofs or walls. Those are the ones we suggest upgrading first.

Does replacing the glass need building regulations approval?

Replacing glass in an existing frame is generally treated as a repair. Replacing whole windows is controlled work: notifiable in England and Wales, and in Scotland and Northern Ireland the council's building control can say whether approval is needed. New glass in a critical location should still be safety glass.

Can you match my obscure bathroom glass?

We can usually match common obscure patterns, or fit a laminated obscure glass with a similar look.
