Glazing bead security upgrades in Caerphilly: what will it cost?
Expect £54 to £114 including VAT (£45 to £95 plus VAT) per window for glazing bead security upgrades in Caerphilly, with a minimum charge of £174 including VAT (£145 plus VAT) per visit. Several windows on one visit work out cheaper per window.
A glazing bead security upgrade makes the glass much harder to remove from the outside of a window or door. On frames with external beads, a burglar can sometimes prise off the beads and lift the whole unit out quietly, and bonding the glass with security tape or fitting bead clips makes that route much harder.
What is included
- Double-sided security glazing tape between unit and frame
- Beads replaced where cracked or brittle
- Can be combined with laminated units
- Checks for missing or loose beads and packers
- Bead clips and bead locks for uPVC frames
- Suitable for windows and glazed doors
Visits in Caerphilly and nearby
Caerphilly is about 16 miles from Bridgend, the main centre for Mid Glamorgan. We can arrange visits across the CF83 district and in nearby places such as Risca and Pontypridd.
Mid Glamorgan covers the valley towns of Merthyr Tydfil, Pontypridd and Aberdare with their long terraced streets, Bridgend's town centre and retail parks, and newer estates near the M4.
Typical reasons to book:
- Glazed doors with external beads
- Aluminium windows and doors with external beads
- Ground-floor and back windows
- Rented homes where frames are staying
Things to think about
Brittle beads
Old beads can crack when removed. We bring replacements so they can be renewed rather than refitted damaged.
Which windows
Ground-floor and hidden windows come first; upstairs windows that cannot be reached are a lower priority.
What the rules say in Wales
Security rules for new homes
Wales introduced its own Approved Document Q for new homes, in force from 1 November 2018, and it applies to newly erected dwellings only. It follows a similar approach to England's, with PAS 24 referenced for easily accessible doors and windows and laminated glass to BS EN 356 P1A in doors and nearby windows. It does not apply to changing the glass in an existing home.
Safety glass in critical locations
In Wales, safety glazing is covered by Approved Document N (glazing) under the Welsh Building Regulations rather than Approved Document K. Glass in doors up to 1,500 mm above the floor, in panes within 300 mm of a door up to 1,500 mm, and in other glazing below 800 mm should be safety glass or protected. Laminated and toughened glass are the usual choices.

Glazing bead security upgrades in Caerphilly: questions
Do you cover Risca as well as Caerphilly?
We can arrange work in Caerphilly and in nearby Risca (6 miles), Pontypridd (6 miles) and Cardiff (7 miles). Dates depend on installer availability.
Does the glass have to come out to fit security tape?
Yes. Each unit is removed, the tape is applied to the frame and the unit is refitted, so it is a good moment to swap in laminated glass if wanted.
Will the upgrade change how my windows look?
No. The tape is hidden behind the beads and clips are discreet.
Can you do this on aluminium windows?
Often, depending on the bead design. We check the profile when we confirm the price.
