How much does security glass for doors cost in Ipswich?

Guide prices for security glass for doors in Ipswich are £150 to £510 including VAT (£125 to £425 plus VAT) per door for supply and fitting. We confirm a fixed price in writing after a free survey, before any glass is ordered.

Security glass for doors replaces the glazed panel in a front, back or side door with laminated safety glass, usually in a sealed unit with a toughened outer pane. It stops the common trick of breaking the glass to reach in and turn a key or thumb-turn left in the lock.

Specification at a glance

  • Internal beads or security tape so glass is much harder to remove from outside
  • Composite door cassettes where available
  • Laminated inner pane with toughened outer pane
  • Laminated backing for leaded and bevelled panels
  • Works with timber, uPVC, composite and aluminium doors
  • Clear, obscure and decorative designs

Fitting in Ipswich and nearby

We arrange surveys and fitting across Ipswich and the IP1 postcode district, and in nearby Harwich (10 miles), Felixstowe (11 miles) and Stowmarket.

Suffolk ranges from Ipswich's waterfront offices and town-centre shops to timber-framed and Georgian streets in Bury St Edmunds, Lavenham and Woodbridge, and coastal Lowestoft and Felixstowe.

Typical places for security glass for doors:

  • Doors with a thumb-turn lock near the glass
  • Flat entrance doors with vision panels
  • Back and side doors with a large glazed panel
  • Front doors with glazed side panels

Things to decide before you order

Composite door glass

Some composite doors use a cassette made by the door's maker. We check whether a laminated version is available before quoting.

Keep the design

Most decorative glass can be copied or rebuilt with a laminated backing pane, so the door looks the same.

Rules that apply in England

England

Fire-rated glass is different

Glass in fire doors, fire screens and protected escape routes has to be fire-rated glass tested as part of that door or screen system, under Approved Document B and the fire safety duties of the building's responsible person. Laminated and security glass are not fire-rated unless the product says so. Where a pane needs both fire and security performance, it must be a product tested for both.

Security rules for new homes

Approved Document Q has applied to new homes in England since 1 October 2015. Easily accessible doors and windows, meaning any part within 2 m vertically of the ground or another accessible surface, should meet PAS 24 or an equivalent, and glazing in doors and in windows within 400 mm of a door should be laminated to at least BS EN 356 P1A. It does not apply when you change the glass in an existing home, although it is a sensible benchmark.

How it works

  1. Tell us about the glazing
  2. Survey, measuring and frame check
  3. Written quote naming the glass

Security glass for doors in Ipswich: questions

Do you cover Harwich as well as Ipswich?

Yes. As well as Ipswich, we can arrange surveys in nearby Harwich, Felixstowe and Stowmarket. Dates depend on installer availability.

Will new door glass affect my door's warranty?

If the door is still under its maker's warranty, check their terms first. We will tell you if the door needs the maker's own glass.

Does door glass have to be safety glass?

Yes. Glass in doors up to 1,500 mm from the floor, and in side panels within 300 mm of the door edge, counts as a critical location and needs safety glass or protection.

Is toughened glass enough for a door?

It meets the safety rule but not the security need, because a broken toughened pane falls out. A laminated pane meets both.
