Counter and reception security screens in Downpatrick: what will it cost?

Our guide range for counter and reception security screens in Downpatrick is £1,295 to £6,995 plus VAT (£1,554 to £8,394 inc VAT) per counter, including fitting. The survey is free for new installations and your fixed price follows in writing.

A counter security screen is a framed glass screen fitted along a counter or reception desk, with a speech panel and a transaction tray, so staff can serve people face to face while separated from them by laminated, anti-bandit or bullet-resistant glass. The protection level is set by a risk assessment of the site.

Specification at a glance

  • Screens for single desks or long counters
  • Counter-front and end-wall protection to match
  • Transaction trays and document drawers
  • Built to the level set by your risk assessment
  • Speech panels set into the glass
  • Hearing loop and lighting provision

Whether you are in central Downpatrick or at the edge of the BT30 district, we can arrange a survey. Nearby Comber and Newtownards are covered too.

County Down mixes south Belfast suburbs and Bangor's seafront with Newry's busy shopping centre, Downpatrick's historic streets and coastal towns under the Mournes such as Newcastle.

Getting the right glass for your building

Counter structure

Heavy glass needs a strong counter top and fixings. We check before quoting and include strengthening if needed.

Protection level

Choose laminated for deterrence, anti-bandit for tool attack or bullet-resistant where a threat assessment calls for it. Everything else is built to match.

What the rules say in Northern Ireland

Northern Ireland

Fire-rated glass is different

Glass in fire doors and fire screens must be fire-rated glass tested within that system, under Technical Booklet E and, for non-domestic premises, the Fire and Rescue Services (Northern Ireland) Order 2006 and Fire Safety Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2010. Security and laminated glass are not fire-rated unless the product is tested for it.

Glazing in workplaces

The Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1993 contain an equivalent requirement to Great Britain's: windows and transparent surfaces in walls, partitions, doors and gates must be of safety material or protected where health or safety requires it, and marked so they are apparent. The employer's risk assessment decides where.

How it works

  1. Tell us about the glazing
  2. Survey, measuring and frame check
  3. Written quote naming the glass
  4. Fitting and handover

Counter and reception security screens in Downpatrick: questions

Do you cover Comber as well as Downpatrick?

Yes. As well as Downpatrick, we can arrange surveys in nearby Comber, Newtownards and Lisburn. Dates depend on installer availability.

Do the trays weaken the screen?

They should not. Transaction trays are designed so there is no straight path through, and their level should match the glass.

Can you add a screen to our existing counter?

Usually, if the counter is strong enough. We check its construction and include strengthening where needed.

Do counter screens need planning permission?

Internal screens do not normally need planning permission. In listed buildings, listed building consent may be needed for fixings into historic fabric.
