Broken glass replacement in Stornoway: what will it cost?
Replacing a broken pane in Stornoway usually costs £174 to £714 including VAT (£145 to £595 plus VAT), depending on size and glass type. The visit charge, from £174 including VAT (£145 plus VAT), is deducted from that price if the work goes ahead.
Broken glass replacement means clearing a cracked or smashed pane, measuring the opening and fitting new glass, which is often the right moment to upgrade to laminated security glass. It covers windows, doors, shopfronts and screens in homes and businesses.

Before the visit
Insurance
Check your policy before ordering. Many insurers will pay for like for like; an upgrade may be at your own cost.
Check the frame
Break-ins often damage beads, hinges and locks too. We check and quote for those at the same time.
What the rules say in Scotland
Fire-rated glass is different
Glass in fire doors and fire screens must be fire-rated glass tested within that system, under section 2 of the Building Standards technical handbooks and the Fire (Scotland) Act 2005 for non-domestic premises. Security and laminated glass are not fire-rated unless the product is tested for it.
Replacing glass in an existing frame
In Scotland, replacing glass in an existing frame is normally treated as a repair rather than work needing a building warrant. Whether replacing whole windows or doors needs a warrant depends on the building, and the work should still meet the building standards. The council's building standards service can confirm what applies.
